I’ve had some questions about what exactly Shark School is. Think of it as a day in school when all you talk about is sharks! We will cover art, music, science, math, history and geography all in just 45 minutes!
Last January I had been toying with the idea of creating a program I could “take on the road” to other libraries. Not all libraries are as fortunate as we are to have the funding to bring in performers. I wanted to offer something that would be of interest to kids but also be affordable to the libraries. Shark School has fit the bill. I have already provided programs in Altoona, IA and Coal Valley, IL. This summer I will be traveling to Marion, Mt. Pleasant and Tipton, IA and to Moline, Orion, Colona, Lansing, Chicago Ridge and Evergreen Park in IL.
I must tell you that I am NOT a shark expert. But, I knew that I could find all the facts I needed at the Library! So I started studying them and gathering information. I have learned alot – but what I have also learned so far is that KIDS LOVE SHARKS! They know so much that often they tell me the facts before I can get them out. It has been fun to develop the idea and I am looking forward to meeting new librarians and the kids they serve.
Just a reminder – no registration is required for Shark School and it is open to children K-4th grades. Join us at 3 p.m. in the Junior League Program Room on Tuesday, June 15th.
