We’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the instruction books for the federal tax forms.  We’re still waiting for the instructions for Form 1040, but the instructions for the 1040A have arrived.

We’ll post here when the 1040 booklets arrive, but in the meantime, individuals can call 1-800-829-1040 to request that forms are mailed to them.  You can also go online to www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html to download form and instructions.

Mark Reviews “Robin Hood” (2010 Movie)

December 9th, 2010

2010’s Robin Hood, the newest of the numerous movies directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, never seemed to get very good reviews online, but I found the movie to be quite entertaining and enjoyable.  The action, including an expected amount of precision archery, is energetic and filmed well.  Much as Superman Returns and the latest Star Trek, Robin Hood was a sort of revamped look into the tale most of us know through the Disney classic, Kevin Costner version, or (for better or worse) Mel Brooks.  Ridley Scott’s rendition focuses mainly on the origin of the Robin Hood character, who begins the movie as Robin Longstride, an archer battling the French for King Richard the Lionheart.  Through a series of injustices, Longstride becomes a champion for the people, must more the outlaw we all think of.  Overall the story line is easy to follow and helps the audience empathize with the title character.  There is already rumor of a sequel, and I believe there is plenty of potential for developing a continued story.  Robin Hood is available on both Blu-ray and standard DVD at the Bettendorf Public Library.

Welcome to the BPL Adult Services web page!

January 20th, 2010

We’re trying some new things with the new web page.  Most notably, our staff will be offering book reviews; we hope you’ll find someone (or someones!) whose reading tastes coincide with yours.  One click will let you see all the reviews by one person, or all fiction reviews, horror reviews, etc.  We hope that you’ll use the comments to give us your opinions and recommendations, too.

You’ll also find information about programs and other services the Library offers.  I’m willing to bet that we have things here that will please and surprise you, so check back often!
