I just read about it at the Bettendorf Iowa library. I grew up in Muscatine and I never felt or heard the word prejudice at home or in school. We had black, hispanic and some 'gypsy' miogrant workers in my classes and everyone was treated equally that I knew. I worked at Bellevue Hospital when I was in High school and Lived in what is now a converted historic home on West Hill. It was used as a convent at one time where the slaves were hidden and sent on up the river at night on a boat or a barge for safety. Muscatine has some very interesting history.
